The Lived Experience of Home Health Nurses¡¯ Role Conflicts:A Phenomenology Study

Abstract
Purpose: To explore the lived experience of home health nurses¡¯ role conflicts and the associated meaning of those as perceived by the home health nurses.

Methods: This qualitative study was conducted between November 2021 and January 2022 among five home health nurses who were recruited. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and inductively analyzed using Colaizzi¡¯s descriptive phenomenological inquiry.

Results: The participants¡¯ lived experience of role conflicts were grouped into four main categories, namely role conflicts due to shortage of qualified home health nurses, role conflicts exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, interpersonal relationship conflicts, and conflicts with existing systems and their solutions.

Conclusion: Knowledge developed from the experiences of the participants indicated various role conflicts, both interpersonal and systematical, while they recognized the significance of their role as the home health nurses. In the future, support systems should be established at the organizational and systematical levels to ensure a better workforce environment for home health nurses.
